A group from Stourport Baptist Church are going on mission to Romania with the Christian charity Operation Mobilisation in August 2014, to engage with local churches as they seek to help poor and neglected children in their communities.
Our time will be spent setting up and running a Summer Camp for the young people of this impoverished area. This is a great opportunity to be actively involved and make a difference in a community that has so little, to invest in the lives of young people and show them that there are people who care.
The ages of the group that will be travelling are from under 10 to over 80 and we are all looking forward to a life changing experience that will lead to us see and work differently in our own community on our return.
We are constantly looking for ways in which we can show the love of Jesus to the community around our church building, whether this be prayer support or practical help.
We recently helped a single Mum to redecorate her house. With ladders; paint pots and brushes in hand, we arrived on a Saturday morning, to the heady smell of tea on the brew. With the pot drunk dry, off we went, doors off hinges, paper off walls, painters stood in baths. At the end of the day, two smart rooms, as bright as shiny new pins.
What a day that was!
Another new initiative are our Ladies Pamper Parties. Over 20 ladies came to our last event to relax to peaceful worship music, whilst having their feet massaged and oiled, their faces treated and their nails beautified.
At the end of the evening the ladies were sent on their way with a Goody Bag of beauty products. All of this and totally free of charge!
Following our first Amazing Grace Gospel Service on 29th May 2011 we also engaged and supported the Amazing Grace "Let Your Light Shine" Tent Mission in Brinton Park, Kidderminster.
From Wednesday 17th to Sunday 21st August the Mission Tent was open and over 200 folk a night came and listened to local Evangelist Tony Hyams as he preached the Gospel.
On Firday Night there was a dedicated youth evening including performances from LZ7 and Ad-Apt, what a great night that was! About 400 young people came through the tent that evening alone.
Over the course of the week more than 80 people came to know Jesus as Lord and Saviour.
The week was very special in so many ways. Those involved in the mission engaged with the community at large throughout the week, some great relationships were made.
Members of various and diverse churches came together and formed friendships that have endured.
The most recent Amazing Grace Gospel Services were held at Stourport Baptist Church on the 9th and 10th November 2012. Once again we saw people touched by Jesus and moving from the kingdom of darkness to the Kingdom of God.
Amazing Grace 2013 took place on the Riverside Meadows here in Stourport in August of this year. Once again Tony Hyams preached the Word of God and by the end of the week over 60 people had come to know Jesus as Lord and Saviour.
We look forward to the next event!
